About This Data

The UK Fuel Price Index shows weekly national average prices for unleaded petrol (E10) and diesel (B7), as published by the UK Government. Prices are expressed in pence per litre and represent averages across UK retailers including supermarkets, major brands, and independent forecourts.

This data is derived from the DESNZ weekly road fuel prices dataset, which is compiled from the CMA Road Fuel Prices Scheme. It is updated weekly, typically on a Tuesday.

These are weekly statistical averages and do not represent live forecourt prices. For real-time fuel prices at individual stations near you, use our fuel price comparison tool. For interactive charts with shorter time ranges and detailed weekly breakdowns, see our UK Fuel Price Charts page.

Methodology

The prices shown on this page are sourced from UK Government weekly statistics. The data is collected via the CMA (Competition and Markets Authority) Road Fuel Prices Scheme, which requires major fuel retailers to submit their pump prices.

The figures represent a national weighted average and cover approximately 90% of UK fuel retail volume. The data is published by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and is available under the Open Government Licence.

PetrolPrices.co.uk presents this data without modification. The chart, table, and headline figures on this page are generated directly from the published CSV dataset.
