New! Journey Planner

Our Journey Planner is a powerful new tool designed to save you money on longer trips. Instead of just searching a single location, you can enter your Start Point and Destination, and we'll find the cheapest petrol stations along your route. It's perfect for commuters, road trips, or just finding the best place to stop on your way home.
It's simple:
  1. Visit our Journey Planner page.
  2. Enter your journey details (Start Location & Destination).
  3. (Optional) Enter your car's MPG and Tank Size — this lets us calculate your exact savings.
  4. Click Plan Journey to see a map of your route with all the best fuel stops highlighted.
Yes! We automatically save your last 5 trips in a "Recent Journeys" section below the search form. This allows you to instantly reload frequent routes (like your daily commute) with a single click without re-typing the details.

This history is stored securely on your device using your browser's local storage and is never uploaded to our servers.

Your journey history is stored locally on your device. It can be cleared if:
  • You clear your browser data or cookies
  • You switch between using Safari and the home screen app (they have separate storage)
  • Your device runs low on storage
  • You haven't visited the site for 7+ days (Safari may auto-clear data)

For the most reliable experience on iPhone, we recommend always using the same method to access the site — either always via the home screen icon, or always via Safari.

We compare the price of a full tank at the cheapest station on your route against the average price of all stations along that same route. This gives you a realistic estimate of how much cash you keep in your pocket simply by choosing the right place to stop.
Yes! We've added a Split Cost feature in the Vehicle Details section. Use the and + buttons to set how many people are sharing the cost (up to 50, covering everything from cars to coaches). Once you plan a journey, the results will show both the total fuel cost and the per-person cost — perfect for car shares, road trips with friends, football away days, or any group travel.
Yes! After planning a journey, you'll see a link below the Estimated Fuel Cost panel that says "Adjust fuel cost assumptions". Click it to open an inline calculator where you can:
  • Change the journey distance
  • Select a car model to auto-fill MPG, or enter your own
  • Adjust the fuel price per litre

The calculator updates live as you type, so you can quickly see how different assumptions affect your fuel cost. It's pre-filled with your journey data, so you can tweak values without starting from scratch.

Yes! You can adjust the "Search Distance from Route" setting.
  • 1-2 miles: Keeps you close to your path for a quick stop.
  • 3-5 miles: Searches a wider area, which might uncover significantly cheaper supermarket fuel slightly off the main road.
Yes. We strongly recommend starting any long journey with a full tank of fuel. This reduces the risk of running low in remote areas, during heavy traffic, or in poor weather conditions where suitable petrol stations may be harder to reach.
During cold or snowy weather, it's a good idea to keep your fuel tank at least half full. This gives you a safety buffer if your journey takes longer than expected due to delays, road closures, or severe conditions.
Before travelling in winter, it's sensible to have the following checked:
  • Tyres — ensure they have good tread and correct pressure.
  • Brakes — to maintain safe stopping distances in wet or icy conditions.
  • Heater and demisters — so you can keep your windscreen clear.
  • Windscreen wipers and washer fluid — for better visibility in rain, snow, or slush.
Yes. The Journey Planner shows you suitable fuel stops along your route, helping you plan where to refuel in advance rather than relying on finding a station at the last minute.

We've also added a Tank Range feature — set your current fuel level (Empty, ¼, ½, ¾ or Full) in the Vehicle Details section, and we'll automatically calculate your driving range and highlight the cheapest station you can actually reach. Stations beyond your range are dimmed so you can focus on what's reachable.

The Tank Range feature removes the guesswork from fuelling up on a journey. Instead of scrolling through every station and wondering "can I reach that one?", you simply tell us how much fuel you have left.

Open the Vehicle Details section and set your:

  • Fuel Economy (MPG) — your car's miles per gallon
  • Tank Size — your fuel tank capacity in litres
  • Current Fuel Level — tap Empty, ¼, ½, ¾ or Full

We'll then calculate your estimated driving range and show you:

  • A "Best Stop Within Your Range" recommendation — the cheapest reachable station
  • Green "In range" and red "Beyond range" labels on every station card
  • Dimmed styling on stations you can't reach, so reachable options stand out
  • A warning if your fuel won't cover the full journey distance

Everything updates instantly when you change your fuel level, MPG, or tank size — no need to re-search.

Our Tank Range tool is calibrated for safety. While most cars have a small reserve, we calculate 'Empty' as exactly that — to ensure you never get stranded looking for a bargain. Your safety is worth more than a few pence per litre.

PetrolPrices.co.uk allows drivers to plan journeys and add up to two free fuel stops, helping them find the cheapest petrol along their route using real-time UK fuel price data.

Yes! You can add up to 2 extra stops along your journey — completely free. Just click the "Add a Stop" button below the Destination field and enter a town, city or postcode for each stop.

This is perfect for trips where you need to pick someone up, make a detour, or visit multiple places on the way. Each leg of your route is colour-coded on the map (blue, orange and purple) so it's easy to see which part of the journey you're looking at.

When you add stops, the route summary card at the top of your results shows your full journey as a visual chain — from your start point, through each stop, to your destination. You'll also see a Route Breakdown showing the distance and estimated drive time for each individual leg.

On the map, each leg is drawn in a different colour with numbered markers at your stops, making it easy to follow the route at a glance.

No — multi-stop journey planning is completely free. PetrolPrices allows drivers to add up to two stops at no cost when planning routes. This helps you find the cheapest petrol along your entire journey without subscription fees.
Yes. We search for stations along every leg of your route, not just the first one. The station list and map show results across your entire journey, and each station card indicates which leg of the route it's nearest to.

Favourite Stations

The Favourites feature lets you save petrol stations you visit regularly for quick access. Instead of searching each time, you can tap the Favourites button to instantly see live prices at your saved stations — perfect for comparing your usual spots at a glance.
After searching for fuel prices, you'll see a star icon (☆) on each station card. Simply tap the star to add that station to your favourites — it will turn gold to confirm it's been saved.

You can also remove a station from favourites by tapping the gold star again.

Tap the yellow "Favourites" button at the top of the search results, or visit petrolprices.co.uk/favourites.php directly. This page shows all your saved stations with their current live prices, fill costs, and quick navigation links.
Yes, completely. Your favourite stations are stored only in your browser's local storage on your device. They are NEVER uploaded to our servers. Only you can access them from the device you used to save them.
No — for your privacy, favourites are stored locally on each device and do not sync between devices. If you use multiple phones or computers, you'll need to add your favourite stations on each device separately.
Yes! When you view your favourites page, the prices are fetched live from our system, so you always see the most up-to-date fuel costs — just like the main search results.
When you visit your Favourites page, we automatically compare the current prices with what they were on your last visit. If any of your saved stations have changed price, you'll see:
  • A banner at the top telling you how many stations went up or down in price
  • A small badge on each affected station card — green for "Price dropped" or amber for "Price up" — so you can instantly spot which ones changed

If nothing has changed since your last visit, you won't see anything — the feature only appears when there's something worth knowing.

Just like your favourites, the price change feature uses your browser's local storage to remember what prices looked like on your previous visit. No account, no sign-up, and no data is ever sent to our servers. Everything stays on your device.
Yes — tap the × button on the right side of the banner to close it. It won't reappear until the next time prices actually change at one of your saved stations. The banner also fades away automatically as you scroll down through your stations.
There's no hard limit set by us, but your browser's local storage has a capacity (usually around 5MB). In practice, this means you can save dozens of stations without any issues.
You can remove a station in two ways:
  • From the search results: tap the gold star on any favourited station to remove it
  • From the favourites page: tap the gold star icon on the station card you want to remove

You can also use the "Clear All Favourites" button at the bottom of the favourites page to remove all saved stations at once.

You may notice two different stars on PetrolPrices — they mean different things:
  • The ⭐ star on a map marker highlights the cheapest station in your current search results on both the map and journey pages. This is added automatically — you don't need to do anything.
  • The ☆ star on a station card is the Favourites button. Tap it to save that station for quick access later.

In short: the map star means cheapest, the card star means saved by you.

Loyalty Cards

Yes. PetrolPrices.co.uk was the first UK fuel comparison site to invent and launch an in-browser loyalty card system, enabling drivers to store and use their loyalty cards directly on the site — without needing an account or app.
You can upload an image of your loyalty card's barcode, which is then saved securely on your device. When you search for fuel, a "Show Card" button will appear for participating brands, allowing you to display the barcode for scanning at the till.
Yes, it is extremely secure. Your loyalty card image is stored only in your browser's local storage on your device. It is NEVER uploaded to our servers. Only you can access it from the device you used to save it.
No. For your privacy, the card images are stored locally and do not sync between devices. You will need to add the card on each device you use.
Pro Tip: Since we don't store your data on our servers, there's no automatic backup. However, you can easily create your own backup on your phone:
  • Create a dedicated photo album on your device (e.g., name it "Loyalty Card Backups")
  • Each time you add a card to the site, save a copy of the barcode image to that album

This way, if you ever clear your browser data or switch to a new phone, you'll have all the images ready to be re-added in seconds.

Data & Accuracy

Our data is refreshed frequently throughout the day. The prices you see may be cached for up to 15 minutes, so they are a very recent guide to the price at the pump.
We use official data from the UK Government's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) Road Fuel Prices Scheme, combined with direct feeds from retailers. This data is provided under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
Prices can change quickly. While our data is very fresh, there can sometimes be a short delay between a station changing its price and the new price appearing on our site. Always treat the displayed price as a guide.

Privacy & Security

No. We have a strict privacy-first policy. We do not use cookies, Google Analytics, or any other tracking tools. Your activity is not monitored. For more details, please see our full Privacy Policy.
No. PetrolPrices.co.uk is completely free to use and does not require any sign-up, login, or subscription.
No — the car reminders feature is fully privacy-safe. Any dates or vehicle details you enter for MOT, Car Tax, Insurance or Service reminders are stored only on your device using your browser's local storage.

Nothing is sent to our servers, and we do not collect, access, or process this information in any way.

Because reminders are kept locally on your device, they will not sync across phones or computers. You can edit or delete them at any time directly from your browser settings.

Yes — PetrolPrices.co.uk now automatically remembers your last search and preferences, including your chosen location, fuel type, brand filters, and search radius. This helps returning users quickly view up-to-date prices without having to re-enter their details every time.

Your preferences are safely stored in your browser's local storage (not cookies), meaning they stay on your device and aren't shared with anyone.

If you'd like to start fresh, click the "Clear location cache" button on the search page — this will instantly remove your saved preferences.

Why Are Car Reminders Useful?

It's simple — just tap to add your MOT, Car Tax, Insurance or Service due dates:

Add your dates:

Car reminders - tap to add your MOT, Tax, Insurance and Service dates

Once added, you'll see a colour-coded display showing exactly what's coming up:

Car reminders showing colour-coded due dates - amber for due soon, red for overdue, green for not due yet
  • Green — not due yet (more than 60 days away)
  • Amber — due soon (within 60 days)
  • Red — due very soon or due today (within 30 days)
  • Grey — expired, take action immediately

Your dates are stored securely on your device only — we never see or store your reminder data.

Many drivers genuinely forget yearly renewal dates — especially when MOT, car tax, insurance and servicing all fall at different times. Our reminders are designed to reduce that risk, and help you stay legal and protected.
MOT Driving without a valid MOT is commonly dealt with by an on-the-spot fine of £100, and if it goes to court the fine can be up to £1,000.
Insurance Driving without insurance can trigger a roadside penalty of £300 and six penalty points, and the police may seize the vehicle.
Car Tax Driving or keeping an untaxed vehicle on a public road can result in an initial DVLA penalty of £80, rising to £1,000 if the case goes to court. Vehicles may also be clamped or seized.
Knock-on risk If your MOT expires, you may not be able to tax the vehicle, and you could also risk wider problems if stopped or involved in an incident.

Privacy note: All reminder dates are saved only on your device (local storage). We don't receive, store, or track your reminder data.

Tyre Finder

Our Tyre Finder is a free tool that helps you find the right tyres for your car. Simply enter your tyre size, choose between summer, winter, or all-season tyres, and compare prices from trusted UK retailers.
Your tyre size is printed on the sidewall of your current tyres — look for a code like 205/55 R16. You can also find it:
  • On a sticker inside your driver's door frame
  • In your vehicle's handbook
  • On the fuel filler flap (some cars)

Our Tyre Finder page also explains what each number means if you're unsure.

No — the Tyre Finder is completely free. When you're ready to buy, we'll link you through to a trusted retailer where you can complete your purchase.

Other Questions

Yes. You can share individual petrol station prices directly from the station card on the list, map, journey, and favourites pages. Tap the Share icon to send the exact station and price to family or friends via WhatsApp, text, email, or other apps.

Shared links open the station on the fuel price map so it can be viewed easily without needing to plan a route.
