Journey planner FAQs
How do I find the cheapest fuel stops on my route?
Enter your start point and destination, then click Plan Journey. We'll show you live-priced petrol stations along your route, which you can sort by cheapest, nearest or most recently updated. Add your car's MPG and tank size for an estimated fuel cost for the trip.
Is the journey planner free?
Yes — the journey planner is completely free to use, with no sign-up or account required. All features, including multi-stop routes, Tank Range, Split Cost and live fuel prices, are available at no charge.
Can I add multiple stops to my journey?
Yes — you can add up to 8 extra stops along your journey, completely free. Click "Add a Stop" below the Destination field to add a town, city or postcode. Each leg of your route is colour-coded on the map, and you'll get a breakdown of distance and drive time for every leg.
How accurate are the fuel prices on the journey planner?
Fuel prices come from the UK government's mandatory fuel price transparency scheme, which requires retailers to publish forecourt prices within 30 minutes of any change. We sync this feed every 15 minutes, so prices shown are at most around 15 minutes old.
Will I have enough fuel to reach the cheapest station?
Use the Tank Range feature in Vehicle Details. Set your current fuel level (Empty, ¼, ½, ¾ or Full) along with your MPG and tank size, and we'll calculate your driving range and highlight the cheapest station you can actually reach. Stations beyond your range are dimmed so you can focus on what's reachable.
Can I split fuel costs with passengers?
Yes. In the Vehicle Details section, use the − and + buttons to set how many people are sharing the cost (up to 50). After planning your journey, you'll see both the total fuel cost and the per-person cost — useful for car shares, road trips, away days or any group travel.
Does the journey planner remember my recent trips?
Yes — your last 60 journeys are saved automatically and shown in the Recent Journeys list at the top of the page. Click any entry to instantly reload that route, or use the search box to find one by town, city or postcode. This history is stored on your device using your browser's local storage and is never uploaded to our servers.
Can I keep a mileage log for business trips?
Yes — after planning a route, tap Add to Mileage Log on the Your Route card. You can adjust the miles, mark it as a return trip, choose business or personal, pick your vehicle and add a reason for the trip. The log works out your mileage allowance at HMRC approved mileage rates (55p a mile for the first 10,000 business miles in the tax year, then 25p) and you can export each tax year as a CSV for your accountant or Self Assessment. This is not an amount HMRC pays you: how it's used depends on whether you're self-employed or an employee, and it doesn't apply to company cars. Miles come from the planned route, so check them against what you actually drove. Your log is stored on your device and is never uploaded to our servers.
