How the figures are made

We don't survey, estimate or model prices. We report what retailers publish to the government scheme, and say exactly how we handle it.

Source
The UK Government Fuel Finder scheme, which requires forecourts to report their pump prices within 30 minutes of any change.
How often we update
We pull the full feed every 15 minutes, covering over 8,000 forecourts across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Averages
Petrol means E10 unleaded and diesel means B7. Averages are the simple mean of every forecourt reporting a valid price for that fuel.
Exclusions
Prices below 100p or above 250p a litre are treated as reporting errors and left out, as are stations with no location data.
Regions
Stations are assigned to England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland by postcode area.
Freshness
Every station on the site shows when its price was last reported, so readers can see how current each figure is.

The widget, badge, feeds and downloads are free for credited editorial use, including articles published by commercial newspapers, magazines, broadcasters, blogs and motoring sites, and for education. Please don't rehost the feeds or republish them as your own API.
